For the first time in this cycle, the monthly yield curve spread in U.S. Treasury markets turned negative, warranting a closer look at this widely tracked metric. Yield curve inversions do not cause recessions—but have been good predictors of downturns in the past. There is no recession today; nor is one likely any time soon. In fact, the expansion is expected to continue and become the longest in history.
